Klosterman Question #2:

Alright kids, the Einstein question was a warmup. We're going a bit darker this time around:

#2. Let us assume a fully grown, completely healthy Clydesdale horse has his hooves shackled to the ground while his head is held in place with thick rope. He is conscious and standing upright, but completely immobile. And let us assume that--for some reason--every political prisoner on earth (as cited by Amnesty International) will be released from captivity if you can kick this horse to death in less than twenty minutes. You are allowed to wear steel-toed boots.

Would you attempt to do this?

Once again, I'll kick off the discussion. I'm going to get nitpicky with the phrasing of the question, and say that Yes, I would a attempt to kill the horse with my steel toed boots. However once I started, if it began making horrible noises, or I saw too much brain matter, I think I would have to give up. In all honesty, I'd probably spend 18 minutes planning out where exactly to kick it, try one or two really hard ones to its temple, then give up and cry myself to sleep.

Caroline, I'd love to hear your thoughts...

Yes I would, although the emotional trauma suffered in the process might be quite damaging, I generally value human life and freedom

I feel quite capable of killing the horse, but why should I care about political prisoners? I choose the horse

Did I mention that I'm sick and twisted?

I don't think I'd physically be able to kill the horse. I might try.

Not sure if people are still reading responses to this, but...

I don't think I'd do it for many reasons. One is that I really doubt I could kick a horse to death. Also, even if I could, I don't think I could bring myself to do it. Most importantly, though, Amnesty's list of political prisoners troubles me (yes, another nitpicky response to the question's wording). They often include individuals against whom the evidence of terrorist activities is strong, if not overwhelming (my employers would be so proud of me right now...). Anyway, just my two cents.
